GPT-5 is here. Game Changer or Just More Hype?

Breaking down the good, the bad, and the overpromised

Every tech blog. Every LinkedIn post. Every YouTube thumbnail.

“GPT-5 is here.”
“The future of AI.”
“This changes everything.”

So I decided to see what the fuss was about… and find out if it’s actually worth a dealer’s time.

The Good

GPT-5 can handle way more data in a single chat without losing track, so you can upload a full year of sales or your entire inventory and get consistent answers without starting over. It’s faster at turning that data into useful insights, follows instructions more closely, and is a better all-around assistant for daily dealership tasks like emails, social posts, and review replies.

The Bad

You Still Have to Feed It Data

GPT-5 doesn’t magically know your sales history or inventory. You have to export, clean, and upload the data yourself. If it’s messy or outdated, the results will be too.

No Magic Sync Button

Unless you set up a custom integration, you’ll be re-uploading files every week or so to keep it current.

The Overpromised

Some people are already talking like GPT-5 will run your dealership for you. Not even close.

Yes, it can integrate with Gmail, Google Calendar, and some CRMs to help schedule test drives, send reminders, and keep records. But in practice, that takes setup, permissions, and sometimes paid third-party tools. If your store has tight IT controls, you might hit roadblocks fast.

And no matter how good GPT-5 gets, it still makes mistakes. It still “hallucinates” sometimes. It’s a tool, not an autopilot button for your business.

Bottom Line

GPT-5 is a step forward, more memory, faster answers, and useful dealership applications. But it’s not a magic bullet. If you’re willing to put in the work to feed it quality data and keep it updated, it can absolutely help you move faster and make better decisions.

If you’re expecting it to replace your BDC overnight… you’re going to be disappointed.

Have you tried GPT-5 yet? Hit reply and let me know what’s impressed you, what’s frustrated you, and what’s just hype. I read every single one.
